One of the best things do when visiting a new place is knowing and joining their festivities. These special events help us know more about the place, its people, culture, and history.
Despite its distant location from downtown Toronto and seeming lack of prominent attractions, Scarborough has multicultural diversity that makes its annual events quite interesting.
Annual Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival
Featuring various films from Scarborough and other neighboring areas, the Annual Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival has been one of the biggest festivals in Scarborough. It is now on its sixth year and is in partnership with several sponsors and minor events. Some of the films that will be shown are Magic Under the Stars, Bitter Money, Sea of Life, The Constitution, Love Stinks, and a lot more.
The festival runs for several weeks to months to promote the featured films. Festival venues are also varied – from Fox Theatre, Albert Campbell Square, to The Bluffs Gallery, there are several locations to choose from.
Annual Toronto International Dance Festival
Also known as the TIDF, this annual event features various dance performances including Jazz, Ballet, Salsa, capoeira, tango, and a lot more. This combination of multicultural styles is showcased in spectacular theatrical performances, making this festival truly amazing and unmatched.
The Toronto International Dance Festival will be held in October 26, 2019, at Chinese Cultural Centre Of Greater Toronto, 5183 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario.
Annual Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival
Held last August 24-26, 2018, the Annual Scarborough Community Multicultural Festival was one successful event. It is just on its third year, but it successfully brought multiculturalism and culture together. Other events on this 3-day festival includes discovery of new dishes and foreign cuisine, partying and music, live entertainment, and other visual and performing arts.
This annual event was held at Marsaryktown Park, 450 Scarborough Golf Club Road, Toronto. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Annual Afro-Carib Fest
Another festivity that celebrates the diversity of people in Scarborough is the Annual Afro-Carib Fest (ACF). It aims to showcase the African and Caribbean cultures through music, arts, dance, and cuisine. Other activities during the Annual Afro-Carib Fest includes live music and dance performances from different local and international artists, drum and dance, raffle draw, cultural vendors, beer tents, dance competition, ethnic food, kids’ zone, etc.
This event was held last August 24-25, 2019 and was organized by Heritage Skills Development Centre (HSDC). This year’s venue was the Albert Campbell Square at 150 Borough Drive, Scarborough.
Annual Harvest Festival
If you love fruits and vegetables, try visiting the Annual Harvest Festival. Organized by the CICS, this event offers fresh fruits and vegetables for sale, as well as food and drinks from local vendors. They also have outdoor games and live music for the whole family and raffle draw.
The Annual Harvest Festival is a free event and no registration is required. It was held last September 14, 2019, from 4 pm to 7 pm in the CICS Community Garden at 2330 Midland Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario.
